Initiated in 2022, Women of Fire is a long-term project that Claudia Revidat continues to this day, returning regularly to the Mursi and Surma tribes in Ethiopia. Through this series, she explores the strength, beauty, and resilience of women, within an environment where tradition, body, and light become a language of their own. Between documentary and pictorial gesture, the artist questions the power of femininity as a space of resistance and transmission. The second chapter of this work, a work in progress since March 2025, is supported by Xiaomi x Photo Vogue. Handprinting still in progress. For more information, please contact studio@claudiarevidat.com

On the outskirts of Delhi, a colossal mountain of waste rises above the city like a storm frozen in time. Ghazipur, one of India's largest landfills, has become a monument to human consumption, a toxic landscape where discarded materials continue to accumulate, poisoning the air, soil and surrounding waters.Every day, women climb this mountain, searching through layers of plastic, textiles and discarded objects for anything that might hold value. Beneath the suffocating heat and toxic fumes, life persists. Amid environmental devastation, Claudia Revidat encounters extraordinary dignity, solidarity and quiet resilience.Through photography and documentary film, The Monster of Ghazipur explores the invisible human cost of our consumption and the profound relationship between environmental destruction and social inequality. Beyond the scale of the catastrophe, the project reveals the humanity of those living and working in its shadow.Awarded Overall Winner of the 2026 Textile Exchange Photography Competition, in partnership with Atmos, the project calls for a deeper reflection on our collective responsibility towards the people and environments bearing the consequences of what we leave behind.

In the scorching silence of Uganda, Lake Katwe glistens, capturing the light and shadows of a community shaped by hardship. Nestled in the Rift Valley, this volcanic land breathes through its salt mines, where each crystal is a story, a sacrifice. Here, in this arena of labour, the destiny of entire families unfolds. Salt is not just a resource; it is the very soul of Katwe, a substance that both sustains and harms.Daily life in this community is marked by sacrifices and forced choices. Children, at an age when their innocence should still be intact, trade school for the mines, joining their parents in an unyielding struggle against poverty. In these polluted waters, they immerse themselves without protection, their hands and bodies exposed to corrosive substances that scar their flesh and threaten their future. Ammonia, brine, and toxic gases permeate their lives, turning each working day into both a physical and moral trial.Through her lens, Claudia Revidat seeks to capture the imprint of this harsh reality, bodies that deteriorate as rapidly as their hopes. These children, often too young to fully comprehend the dangers, bear a burden far beyond their years. They venture into the lake, seeking blocks of salt, their courage overriding fear, their resolve defying the hostility of their environment.Yet, even in this unforgiving world, glimmers of hope endure. Claudia Revidat captures the bonds between community members, forged through solidarity and resilience. An unbreakable fraternity, cemented by shared suffering, illuminates the lives of those who participate in it. The moments when they support one another reveal the very essence of humanity, a collective strength that transcends suffering and redefines dignity. From Dusk Till Dawn was awarded the Public Prize by RPBB in 2025.2024, Uganda. The project "Women of Fire," born in 2022, embodies the captivating journey of the Mursi women of Ethiopia, symbols of a tribe that blends delicate beauty with fierce determination. Their spirit, like a blazing fire, shines intensely, illuminating the struggles they face and the triumphs they achieve. Through the portraits, the aim is to reflect their unique fusion of vulnerability and unyielding resilience, capturing the visible and invisible scars that bear witness to their battles. Each image harmoniously merges the feminine form with elements of nature, intertwining their narratives with the natural realm. By overlaying intricate floral tattoos and organic clay, an image is woven, symbolizing the profound connection between women and their environment. It stands as a reminder of our shared existence, urging the preservation of the fragile equilibrium that sustains us all. Employing an artistic vision, the use of color and layering techniques conjures a sense of depth and emotion. Every stratum of the composition epitomizes an aspect of the women's journey, articulating their pain, joy, and evolution. Beyond their profound symbolism, the fire metaphor encompasses the echoes of detonations that resound periodically within their communities - a perpetual reminder of the tribal conflicts they confront. These encounters leave scars not only on their bodies but also on their collective consciousness. These encounters imprint scars not only on their physical forms but also on their collective consciousness. This poignant reality compounds the challenges posed by climate change and societal disparities. Through the imagery, the objective is to capture the resilience and fortitude of these women navigating the intricacies of their daily lives with unwavering determination. By interweaving the themes of fire and conflict, the aim is to illuminate the interrelated issues they confront and inspire endeavors toward a more just and sustainable future for these Mursi women.Since 2022, Women of Fire has been multi-awarded and has had the opportunity to be exhibited at the PhotoVogue Festival in Milan in 2023, as well as in several other institutions and venues worldwide.

In the state of Jharkhand, #India, young girls aged 8 to 18 descend each day into the Earth’s depths, where coal blackens their hands and their dreams. Under the weight of machines and the shadow of major industries, they work, bound together by a destiny that escapes them. But at times, a spark ignites: Dance. Each step, each movement, becomes a breath of freedom amid the dust and deafening noise. Through this act of grace, they defy the injustice of a voracious system, casting light upon the darkness of an industry that devours their childhood. Their bodies express a luminous hope, fragile yet unyielding, like a glimmer of light emerging from the depths’.I am deeply honoured to have been awarded this grant for my work in India, supported by Kodak Professional Europe and Carmencita Lab for the photography project. Dancing to Resist

In the vast Karamoja region of Uganda lives the Karamojong community, united across seven clans. Rooted in ancient pastoral traditions, they have faced both internal conflicts and external challenges, from clashes with other ethnic groups to disputes with authorities. Cattle ownership is central to their economy and cultural identity, with clans relying on innovative methods to sustain their herds in the semi-arid landscape. Water scarcity often forces clans to migrate, triggering conflicts over resources and making food production even harder. In this wild, majestic setting, I began my photography project, drawn to the lives of four young men: Angura, Houlong, Lotyang, and Homuren. Their lives revolve around protecting their herds, bound by a powerful fraternity. Observing their daily routines, I witnessed the depth of their connection—not only to each other but to their animals, which represent a spiritual bond with nature. Armed with bows, they navigate nomadic life’s challenges, defending their herds from frequent threats. Each young man carries stories of struggle and resilience. Houlong shared a painful moment: the theft of 40 cattle by a rival Kenyan tribe. This loss left him financially strained and unable to marry the woman he loves. Such experiences underscore the sacrifices they face. Their way of life, so attuned to the rhythms of earth and sky, offers a profound lesson in respect and humility, reminding us of our shared fate with nature.

Sentinels of Karamoja

In Chhattisgarh, India, my lens focused on the Maria tribe, a people whose holistic beliefs merge with nature. This chapter, a part of my broader project "Youth of Land", involved me immersing myself in nomadic tribe cultures for over a decade. The Maria allowed me to explore both the visible and invisible aspects of their culture, deeply resonating with my journey. Their holistic beliefs, in harmony with nature, helped me grasp the essence of the sensible world, a subtle balance between materiality and anagogic aspects of existence. This journey was a quest for understanding, a dialogue between their world and my own story, blending tangible exploration with the contemplation of life's intangible mysteries. The Maria Tribe, India 2022

"I have been captivated by the profound contrast of appearances and values in Mongolia. Despite seeming to possess very little, the people of Mongolia are devoid of any essential lacks. They wholeheartedly embrace the fundamentals of life without succumbing to the detrimental consequences of unfamiliar modernity. Mongolia remains untouched by industrial pollution, urban loneliness, excessive consumerism, and the need for anxiety medication. Instead, the essence of Mongolia encompasses boundless freedom, a profound sense of communal brotherhood, and harmonious coexistence with nature." - Claudia Revidat, i-D Magazine 2016
